Solar Panels

A solar panel.

Photovoltaic (PV) modules consist of a number of solar cells connected together, to produce electricity from daylight for battery charging, to power DC equipment, or when used with an inverter, to produce AC mains power.

These maintenance free panels have no moving parts, make no noise, cause no pollution and will produce useful power even under a grey overcast sky.

A solar electric system has the advantage of being quick and easy to install with a minimal requirement for site preparation. Also their modular design allows for easy expansion of a smaller system if needs change.

Simple and reliable, they are ideal for rural and remote power needs, providing reliable electricity supplies for properties without mains electricity.

PV modules simply connect across storage batteries and can be left in place permanently using a charge controller to prevent overcharging. Whenever exposed to daylight they will put charge into the battery, and loads can be run in the normal way. Output voltage is fairly constant under all levels of light, but the output current (and hence the power ) varies with the intensity of light.

We use PV modules manufactured by Solar-Fabrik. These are high quality, high efficiency modules, ideally suited to residential or commercial solar systems.
